In 2022, I had the pleasure of working as a student production assistant with the University Press of Kentucky.
I was given the opportunity to propose a cover design for an upcoming publication, Still Running: My Life as the First Black Football Player in the SEC by Nathanial Northington.
I received a creative brief which provided copy and creative direction. I remember from the creative brief that they wanted the cover to feel sporty and sexy. I looked at photos from the author's football career because his 2013 publication featured a dynamic photo of him. After selecting the photo, I conducted typeface testing to pick the best typeface for the book cover.
I was excited to hear that the author liked my proposed design and UK Athletics would provide their typeface, Torque, for the header to tie in the author's connection with the athletic program.
